Cherry Creek State Park

Cherry Creek State Park is perfect for everyone – including seniors! - Cherry Creek State Park is perfect for everyone – including seniors!

March 4th, 2021

From the sandy lakeside shore to the natural Colorado prairie to the views of the Rockies in the distance, Cherry Creek State Park is a little slice of the natural landscape you might find in our beautiful state. And the fact that it’s located less than 15 miles southeast of Denver makes it easy for anyone in the metro to access!

Cherry Creek State Park Senior Pass Info

Many of the senior residents here at Montage Hills are fans of the state park, and with good reason. Access to Cherry Creek is available through the purchase of the Aspen Leaf Pass. Senior Coloradans (64 years or older) can purchase the pass for $70, which allows them to visit all Colorado state parks for a full 12 months!

Cherry Creek State Park Trails

With a full year of park visits paid for, you’ll want to make the most of your pass. Cherry Creek is chock full of excellent nature trails, whether you want to walk a couple miles or much more. Here are some of our favorite trails:

Cherry Creek Pipeline Trail (1.4 miles)

This short trail takes you right through the heart of the park, offering views of trees and wetlands. As an almost-perfectly flat walk, the Pipeline Trail is great for older hikers. However, keep in mind that this is not a loop trail, so you will have to walk back.

Cherry Creek Reservoir Loop Trail (8 miles)

This loop trail may be slightly too long for some seniors at eight miles long, but it’s certainly one of the most popular options. As the name implies, this loop trail takes you all the way around the Cherry Creek Reservoir, offering views of the lake, beaches, and forests.

Cherry Creek, Pope, and Butterfly Hill Trail Loop (2.6 miles)

If you’re looking to see the lake but don’t want to hike all the way around it, this trail loop is for you! Accessing the trail is fairly easy, as well, with a parking lot directly on the loop.

12 Mile Trail and Cherry Creek Loop (2.3 miles)

Don’t let the name fool you: this trail isn’t actually 12 miles long! Located in the southeast corner of the park, 12 Mile Trail and Cherry Creek Loop is another flat trail that’s easy for any walker. Keep an eye out for dogs or bring your own; the loop trail passes right by an off-leash dog park!

Mama Louise Italian Restaurant
